Inflation comes in at highest level since our records began in July
Consumer prices increased 0.96% from the previous month in July, coming in below the 2.74% increase logged in June. July's result marked the weakest reading since March. Looking at the details of the release, petroleum products and holiday packages were the largest contributors. Meanwhile, summer sales led to lower clothing prices.
Despite the softer month-on-month reading, annual inflation rose to 11.0% in July from June’s 10.4%. July's result represented the highest inflation rate since our current records began in 2001. Annual average inflation rose to 6.3% in July (June: 5.5%). Finally, harmonized inflation rose to 11.7% in July, from the previous month's 10.8%.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants project harmonized inflation to average 7.9% in 2022, which is up 0.5 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2023, the panel expects harmonized inflation to average 5.3%.
